Tell us about yourself and how you came to illustrate for children?

My name is Elizabeth Hubal, and I am a twenty-two year old illustrator. I am a recent graduate from Towson University, where I gained a BFA in illustration. Throughout my years at school, I struggled to find my calling and style as an artist. I began to work in a children’s book style and instantly fell in love with the emotion and storytelling I could capture in a single image.

Congrats on your banner design! How did you approach this project?

I wanted to approach this project with a whimsical and fantastical theme. I tried to think of a concept that would entice kids and get them thinking further about the story behind it, along with keeping close to the idea of “birds on a wire.”

What is your preferred illustration style and medium?

As an artist, I work mainly with digital media, but I have begun to incorporate traditional mediums such as pastel and colored pencils into my more recent work. I think these traditional aspects help add more depth and life to my work. I hope to continue experimenting in my pieces and finding what works best for me!

What projects are you working on now?

Since graduating undergrad last spring, I’ve been working on updating my portfolio with new work while also looking for new artistic opportunities!

What is one thing most people don't know about you?

Growing up, I wanted to work in animal sciences. This turned into me having crazy pets like lizards, frogs, and an axolotl! I still love nature and the animal sciences, so I try to incorporate them into my work whenever I can.

Elizabeth Hubal is an illustrator with a passion for creating art that brings joy to others. She is currently working towards becoming a children’s book illustrator, where she can turn stories into artwork that inspires and engages young audiences. Art has always been a constant part of her life, and it is important that her work can bring a sense of happiness and wonder. Through her illustrations, she aims to capture the joys and imagination of children’s minds. She primarily works with digital media, but also incorporates traditional techniques such as watercolor and colored pencils to add texture and depth to her pieces.
