Picture Book Giveaway

We are pleased to host a giveaway of the picture book, Henna is. . . by Marzieh Abbas, illustrated by Anu Chouhan (Feiwel & Friends/ Macmillan) out on July 23. Enter to win a copy via the Rafflecopter below.

About the Book: A lyrical picture book celebrating henna, a traditional plant-based form of temporary tattooing in South Asian, North African and Middle Eastern cultures.

Henna is nature—seeds sprouted into shrubs, leaves kissed by tropical rain.

Henna is color—the orange of juicy mangoes, sun-kissed brown, or black as the feathers of crows.

Henna is fragrance—earthy and nutty, lemony and clove-y.

About the Author: Marzieh is a baker turned award-winning author. She loves adding magic to her creations– whether that’s a seven-layered rainbow cake or the books she writes for children all over the world. Her work is inspired by her Pakistani culture and Muslim heritage. She is the author of the popular chapter book series: Nadia & Nadir. Her debut picture book in the traditional American Market, titled A Dupatta Is. . .  released from Macmillan Publishers, U.S.A. in 2023. Marzieh is a member of Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Picture Book Challenge, and a graduate of the Lyrical Language Lab and Children’s Book Academy. She occasionally writes under the name: Marzieh A. Ali.

About the Illustrator: Anu Chouhan is a Punjabi-Canadian author, illustrator and art director. A trained animator with a background in video game development, Anu often combines her love of her cultural heritage into her art, as well as drawing inspiration from anime, nature, and fashion. Picture Book Giveaway

We are pleased to host a giveaway of TWO picture books by Justin Colón, The Quacken, illustrated by Pablo Pino (Simon & Schuster BFYR) out on July 16, and Impossible Possums, illustrated by James Rey Sanchez (Disney Hyperion) out on Oct. 22. Enter to win these copies via the Rafflecopter below!

About The Quaken:  Fans of The Bad Seed and Creepy Carrots will flock to this hilarious, lightly spooky picture book about a boy who unwittingly unleashes a ferociously fuzzy beast on his campground!

Lurking in the lake at Cucumonga Campground is a fearsome and frightening creature. Legend says that it swallows kids, canoes, and even whales whole. But all Hector sees are cute, cuddly, quacking ducks. Until he breaks the campground’s most important rule—Don’t Feed the Ducks—and releases…the Quacken.

About The Impossible Possums: Perfect for fans of Despicable Me and Lilo & Stitch, this exceptionally goofy picture book stars aspiring villain Carl the possum, who is on a mission to create a like-minded conspirator.

Life as an aspiring villain is lonely for Carl the possum, so he's on a mission to create a like-minded conspirator. But when his Possum Populator arrives, it requires assembly (and villains don't have time for that). So, Carl tosses the instructions, leading to a series of outlandish mishaps and mounting frustration as the contraption pops out all the wrong creations.

About the Author: Justin Colón is a NY-based, Latino author whose forthcoming picture books include The Quicken, Impossible Possums, Impossible Possum for Mayor, The Zombies, and Vumpurr. He offers editorial services, consultations, mentorships, and classes through his small business, The Kidlit Hive (kidlithive.com). In his other life, Justin is a professional, formally trained voice and on-camera actor and SAG-AFTRA member who has co-starred on hit shows such as Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Gotham, and Sneaky Pete. He invites you to visit him at justincolonbooks.com.

About the Illustrator for The Quacken: Pablo Pino was born in August 1981 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up watching cartoons, playing football, and drawing a lot. These days, he doesn’t watch as much TV and only plays football once a week, but still has the joy of painting every day because for the last ten years, he’s been working as a professional illustrator for different print media. What he enjoys the most is illustrating books for children and teenagers. In addition to illustrating almost fifty books, Pablo also does character designs and board games and collaborates on designs for school books and magazines with various worldwide publishing companies. He is self-taught and his illustrations are mostly computer drawn, but he always adds textures that he makes with pencils, crayons, acrylics, and pretty much any material that lets him get messy like when he was child.

About the Illustrator for Impossible Possums:  James Rey Sanchez’s love for art came from many hours of reading comics, playing video games, and watching ’90s Saturday morning cartoons. He has illustrated books on subjects ranging from Irving Berlin to trucks, but this is his first about a villainous possum. He lives in Detroit, Michigan. Learn more at JamesReyArt.com.
