About the AuthorDella Ross Ferreri is a children's writer and retired teacher. She is the author of several delightful board books and picture books including The Mouse Buffet: A Christmas Treat, Huggle Wuggle Bedtime Snuggle, Precious Baby, God Blesses Me, and more on the way. Her stories, poems and action rhymes have appeared in such magazines as Highlights High Five, Hopscotch for Girls, Ladybug and Babybug. Honors for her books include a CYBILS Award finalist and Bank Street College Best Children’s Books of the Year. Della loves spending time with her husband and three children, writing, reading, movies, traveling, playing disc golf and taking leisurely walks. About the Illustrator: Even at a young age, Tim Bowers's artwork reflected a strong sense of humor and an interest in animals. Prior to illustrating children's books, Tim worked as an artist for Hallmark Cards, where he helped launch the popular Shoebox Greetings card line. He now has illustrated more than 25 children's books and garnered various awards including the Chicago Public Library's "Best of the Best" list and several Junior Library Guild selections. Tim's artwork has been included in the Society of Illustrators Annual Art Exhibition and the S.I. Humor Exhibition, as well as featured in children's magazines, used on a wide variety of products, and appeared on hundreds of greeting cards. Original paintings from several books are in private and institutional collections across the country. Tim lives with his family in Granville, Ohio, and travels to schools and libraries to share his work with students.

We are pleased to host a giveaway of the picture book, Menudo Sunday: A Spanglish Counting Book, by María Dolores Águila, illustrated by Erika Meza


About the Book: S
undays are the best: that’s when a little girl, her mamá, abuelitos, tías, and primos gather together to share a delicious bowl of menudo, a traditional Mexican soup. But when playtime with the cousins and family dogs gets a little too wild and Abuelito Esteban’s special bowl of menudo breaks, the whole family has to pitch in to make a new batch! Through the chaos of menudo mishaps and sneaky snacks for perritos with wagging tails, young readers will giggle as they learn to count from 1 to 15 in both Spanish and English, with Spanish words sprinkled throughout the story.  

 

About the Author: María Dolores Águila is a Chicana poet and writer from San Diego, California. Deeply inspired by Chicane history and art, she seeks to write empowering and inclusive stories about everything she learns. She is also the author of the historical fiction picture book Barrio Rising: The Protest That Built Chicano Park.

 

About the Illustrator: Erika Meza was born in Mexico, fell in love with animation on the border of California, and developed a taste for eclairs in Paris before moving to the UK to teach at Nottingham Trent University. She is the illustrator of numerous children's books including My Two Border Towns by David Bowles and Salsa Lullaby by Jen Arena.
