The 2015 Caldecott and Newberry Awards were awarded this week. Congratulations to Dan Santat for the Caldecott (THE ADVENTURES OF BEEKLE: THE UNIMAGINARY FRIEND) and to Kwame Alexander for the Newberry (THE CROSSOVER). A full list of the ALA winners here.

AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR SPOTLIGHT



This week we feature author Suzanne Lewis and illustrator Lisa Anchin. They are the author and illustrator of the newly released PB, A PENGUIN NAMED PATIENCE. Both are giving away signed copies.

Contests & Awards

Jan. 19-Mar. 2 The KBR 2015 Unpublished PB Manuscript Award
  • What: Submit a PB under 400 words or 1 illustration
  • Who: Australian resident living in Australia or overseas over 18 years old
  • Fee: $25 (AUS) for a manuscript, $15 (AUS) for illustration
  • Prize: $200 plus fast track consideration by Walker Books Australia for ms; $100 plus consideration by Walker Books Australia

Feb. 22  March Madness Poetry 2015 Application Period Closes

  • What: a month long kidlit poetry contest determined by public voting in knock out rounds (contest takes place Mar. 8-April 2)
  • Prize: bragging rights and one year possession of The Thinkier statue
