In the wake of the horrifying news from Orlando, it is more important than ever to have children's books that promote tolerance, love, kindness, and respect. A couple of items:

Author Paula Yoo is spearheading a book drive for LGBTQ books for the Orlando Youth Alliance, a nonprofit that provides support services to LGBTQ youth. If you are a LGBTQ author or write LGBTQ-themed books for kids or teens, please consider donating your books to this group.

Providing books that speak to vulnerable kids is more important than ever. Several authors have written about schools rescinding invitations over potentially controversial stories: Kate Messner (author of SEVEN WISHES who was disinvited from a school visit), R.J. Palacio
