  • What: apply for one of ten spots (8 for authors or author-illustrators and 2 for illustrators) to be mentored by an experience creator for 2018
  • Who: any one who writes or illustrates about diverse main character or diverse central subject matter
  • Prize: a year long mentorship with professional writer or illustrator
Oct 15- Oct 31 WNDB 2017 MG Short Story Contest

  • What: submit your short story for children under 4,000 words, with the theme "Heroes Next Door"
  • Who: authors who identify as diverse writing about diverse characters
  • Prize: $1000 plus publication in an anthology published by Crown Books for Young Readers/ Random House

Nov. 15 SCBWI Emerging Voices Award
  • What: submit your original work in English for young readers
  • Who: writer or writer/illustrator from an underrepresented background
  • Prize: 2 winners will get paid trips to the L.A. SCBWI conference, manuscript consultations, and more
