- Award: $200 or writing course plus publication in anthology
Aug 18 Brenda Drake's Pitch Wars
- What: win a chance to be mentored for 2 months for a MG, YA, NA, or adult fiction ms, to be polished for agent submissions. An agent round will occur in November
- When: Apply to mentors during a 24 hour period August 18
- Award: a mentor for 2 months and the chance to participate in the Agent round on Nov. 4-5
Sept. 1 Commonword Diversity Children's Prize
- What: search for debut children's writer whose work embraces ethnic diversity
- Eligibility: UK residents over 16
- Prize: £ 500 & professional mentoring by Catherine Pellegrino
